Relief from corneal epithelium basement membrane dystrophy (EBMD)
I've been diagnosed with corneal epithelium basement membrane dystrophy (EBMD). The epithelium is the first layer of the cornea. The membrane on which this layer sits becomes thicker than normal and begins to protrude into the epithelium. Cells of the epithelium break loose, causing painful erosions. Exposure to the Blue light from self-luminous electronic devices (cell phones and monitors) can cause a lot of problems: from eye strain & headaches to diabetes and obesity (The national institute of health has a good report on the effects of blue light on the eye: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6288536/ ). There's no cure for EBMD, so I decided to buy blue filtering eyeglasses to wear while working on the computer. I also learned that light bulbs simulating sunlight bring relief to the EBMD. A bulb with a minimum of 90 CRI is thought to reproduce sunlight quite satisfactorily. A bulb of 5500K is thought to be an excellent full spectrum light bulb. So I purchased the FilmGrade™ Flicker-Free A19 LED Bulb from Waveform. As soon as I turned my light on, the eye relief was immediate and amazing. I've been advised to work outside in the early morning before the sun reaches high noon and the corneal relief I feel during those hours is the same that I feel with the Waveform light! I'm going to use these light bulbs all the time at my computer work station and might also purchase them for other areas of my house! I certainly encourage everyone who works in front of a computer monitor for many hours, to purchase these bulbs! Furthermore, I've learned that Blue light suppresses melatonin which has been shown to increase the risk of cancer, impair immune system function, and possibly lead to cardiometabolic consequences such as type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and heart disease. Another reason to use these bulbs!"
