Make Your Own Spectrum or Color
Sometimes, the standard color and spectrum options are not enough. We get it - we look at SPD and chromaticity data all day.
Whether it's a new spectrum idea you're testing for a horticultural application, a custom color for a client's lighting project, or a lighting research project, we've got you covered with our powerful FiveSpect™ and SimpleColor™ platforms.
Go To SimulatorHow It Works - Fixed vs Dynamic
Light color and spectrum is the result of additive color mixing - by varying the relative amounts of each color input, the resulting SPD and chromaticity can be manipulated.
Fixed phosphor-converted LEDs (principle behind all white LEDs) use specific phosphor recipe mixes to achieve specific color specs (e.g. 2700K 95 CRI). This phosphor mixing happens during the LED manufacturing process, and cannot be altered after production. This is the approach used for fixed-color white LEDs with standard color specifications, and requires production runs of hundreds of thousands of LEDs to make the economics work. As a result, it is not well suited for lower quantity custom spectrum and color solutions.
Color mixing can also be dynamic - either through digital controls (FiveSpect™) or strategic LED count ratios (SimpleColor™). This approach uses standard LED components, each of which act as a separate input color channels. Because each channel is separate, the relative input amounts can be manipulated via input controls, and as a result, billions of combinations can be created with in-stock parts. No minimum production quantities or development costs!

Custom Spectrum LEDs Using FiveSpect
Waveform Lighting's FiveSpect LED system utilizes a 5-color LED emitter featuring high CRI warm white & cool white, as well as monochromatic red, green and blue channels. When paired with a digital controller such as our own DMX decoder, billions of color and spectrum combinations can be achieved.
FiveSpect is an optimal custom spectrum solution for applications requiring the ability to dynamically produce custom color and spectrum output on the fly. Perfect for film and photography applications where ambient lighting conditions are always in flux, or when you just don't know ahead of time what kind of light colors you'll need to produce for a shoot.
Learn More →Custom Spectrum LEDs Using SimpleColor
Waveform Lighting's SimpleColor system leverages monochromatic LEDs as building blocks to achieve custom color and spectrum results. Use our LED spectrum simulator to determine the length of each LED strip color needed to achieve the spectrum and color you need. Because it does not require any digital controllers or dimmer systems, this solution is well suited for applications where cost and simplicity are a priority.
SimpleColor is a great solution for custom spectrum applications that do not require dynamic control - the color is fixed and permanent. This offers an advantage in not needing any controllers, which helps cut down on complexity and cost.
