The illumination from the 395 nm LED strip is bright and deep violet in color. It readily excites fluorescent dyes, such as the whiteners left on fabric by laundry detergent, or the ink from highlighter pens. I powered it from my own 12V supply without issue. Interestingly, it had only a little effect on Transitions photogrey lenses, unless they were held very close to the light source."
