Safe, flicker-free light
I was so happy to find that Waveform is making LEDs that are actually flicker-free. Invisible LED flicker gives me headaches that last days to weeks where I can’t concentrate and also have nausea and disrupted sleep. I think these are a kind of migraine, but the headache doesn’t throb. I’m triggered by LED flicker that’s too fast to see (120 Hz to at least 1000 Hz). The brain can sense really fast flicker, perhaps more than 10,000Hz even if you can’t consciously see it. These Waveform bulbs really don’t flicker at all - the light is completely steady in a phone slow-motion video (see attached video at filmed at 240fps) and my brain isn’t triggered at all. I’m also a scientist and educator - flicker from old fluorescent lights is known to impair student learning. No one has studied the effect of the worse flicker from other LED bulbs yet. And other companies that market “flicker-free” bulbs tend to only mean visible flicker that would annoy anyone and not the invisible flicker that causes health and learning problems. I think parents and schools should invest in truly flicker-free lighting like that from Waveform to provide the best learning environment for children. If it’s flicker-free light, you shouldn’t see any flashing or moving stripes in a slow-motion phone video. If LED light makes it feel like something is not calm about your environment, you may be vaguely conscious of your brain sensing the flicker - that’s the first hint I often have that “bad” LEDs are flickering. I never get that feeling from flicker-free LEDs like these Waveform bulbs. I am so happy to have found a lighting company that is prioritizing energy efficiency AND human health."
