Can I run the RGB LED Strip with Conductor Speaker Wires for Under Cabinet Lighting
I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to run under cabinet LED lighting. I ran 2 conductor speaker wires to all the cabinets where the strips will be going. My question is, am I able to somehow run RGB LED with the wiring I have and some kind of connector? Or would I need the 4 conductor wire to do the color changing?
Depending on the gauge of the speaker wire, it could very well be sufficient for the power requirements of the FiveSpect product, though we generally recommend utilizing 16-24 gauge wiring for our LED products. For example, the 5-color connecter cable for the FiveSpect product utilizes a 24 gauge wire.
Further, please note that as the FiveSpect product utilizes five channels for the power and adjustment of each RGB output, you will likely require a wiring solution that can easily accommodate all five channels between the FiveSpect and the controller.
In order to control the output of each channel, we would recommend either our FilmGrade™ DMX LED Dimmer & Decoder with 5 Channel Output product paired with a DMX controller, or a third-party 5-channel output controller. Based on my review, there appear to be several third-party options available online.
In case it proves to be useful, you may also be interested in our LED Strip Light Wire Gauge & Voltage Drop Calculator, which can provide information regarding the recommended wire gauge after inputting some installation details.
